Hello! My name is Afroza Akter and I am ten years old. I am in third grade at the Tongi Children Education Program (TCEP), a school in the town of Tongi, about 20 km from the capital Dhaka. There are about 220 students at the school. The school has been run by ADRA Bangladesh since 2014 and provides preschool and primary education from first to fifth grade. Many families here work in factories or as manual laborers, but jobs are hard to find and wages are low. Our school is a safe place where we can learn and grow.
I don't feel that I am any different from my classmates. I have the same interests as any other 10-year-old girl—I like to draw, watch cartoons, and play with my sisters. My favorite fruit is apples, and my favorite color is red. I really enjoy learning Bengali.
I live in the Ershadnagar slum with my parents, Abul and Subura, and my younger sisters. My dad works hard as a day laborer and my mom works in a garment factory. Life isn't easy, but I dream of becoming a doctor so I can help and serve people. With your support, I will be able to continue my studies and achieve my goal.
