Tenacious Children from Tongi
Afsana has lived with her aunt after her parents had divorced, but she is cheerful and funny. Emran often looks after his five siblings and once he grows up, he wants to become a detective. Shilpi, Sonali and Marsheda's parents are illiterate, so they have very limited employment opportunities as well as low earnings. You may feel that you have already read such sentences on our website but this is a hot news.
These are the stories of children and families from the Tongi town with 300.000 inhabitants, located 20 km north from Dhaka. It is not easy to get a job here. In addition, many adults are illiterate, thus, they can only do poorly paid manual work. Exhausting living conditions are sometimes so unbearable that happy families crumble and children grow up with relatives or strangers who take them.
What can we do about it? ADRA Bangladesh opened an urban school in Tongi in 2014 that has now 220 students. The children go to the kindergarten and elementary school (1st – 5th grade). We are looking for you, people who are not indifferent to fate of other human beings and who want to give children a treasure. The treasure is education which will be multiplied in the future and help the whole families.
Take a tour of the newly-supported Tongi School with us and support one of the 20 children who are waiting for their donor. For instance: Shilpi, Marshed, Sonali, Afsan or Emran.
