Teddy Bears on Their Way to Kids in Bangladesh
Part 6: The earthquake and meeting the children
The rainy season starts in Bangladesh. It’s hot (over 30°C/86°F) but rain is lowering the temperature nicely. We thanked our colleagues for “ordering” European weather. :-) Our boss traveled for two weeks and visited many schools, while we frolicked in our room in Dhaka. The building shook a bit last Saturday. As we found out later, it happened because of an earthquake in Nepal. Nobody got hurt here in Dhaka…
Our last journey, from Dhaka, led us about 210 km/130 miles southwards in Bangladesh. We crossed the River Padma, spent three days in the city of Gopalgonj and stayed one night in the KMMS boarding school.
And there it was! On Wednesday (29 April 2015), we finally met the children. We traveled by rickshaw, by boat, and then walked to the Koligram village school. The children had been waiting for us and were really happy when they saw us. They immediately started playing and talking with us – curiously, we understood. For teddies, it’s not too hard to understand children. Perhaps some adults, too, speak their language. Lucie, Irena, Zdeňka, Helena, and Jitka definitely do. And for that, they deserve A BIG BANGLAKIDS THANKS! :-)
